A free Chromium-based browser built for AI agents to handle logged-in tasks
ego (lite) sits at an interesting intersection: it's a browser built specifically for AI agents, not for humans. The idea is that tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Gemini CLI need to interact with websites that require login, and running those sessions through your personal Chrome profile is either messy or dangerous.
The lite version is free and Chromium-based. It shares your real Chrome browser state (cookies, sessions, bookmarks) but runs agent operations in isolated "Spaces." That isolation matters. You don't want an experimental agent accidentally mass-deleting emails or posting to your production social accounts because it got confused about which tab it was in.
The use case that clicks for me: an agent that needs to log into a SaaS tool, pull a report, and download the data. Normally you'd either hardcode API credentials (if they exist) or do it manually. With ego, the agent uses your existing session without you handing over raw credentials.
I couldn't fully test it because the site forced a zh-cn redirect that 404'd, which is not a great sign for an international tool. But the concept addresses a real friction point in the agent ecosystem. Whether it's trustworthy enough to let near your logged-in sessions is the existential question. Free is a good price for experimentation; I'd start with a burner Google account.
